Bangalore is the city which has India's richest man and woman.
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw the chairperson of Biocon has been crowned
the richest woman in India. Wipro's chairman Azim Premji is
the richest man with a net worth of Rs. 30,000 crores. Kiran's
net worth is Rs. 2,303 crores.
Biocon made a billion dollar stock market debut on Wednesday.
The 53 per cent closing premium has added Biocon's value to
$1.11 billion. Kiran was very thrilled and said the her personal
wealth had never been important to her and that she is feeling
great about having created a billion dollar company and that
it has all been due to a team effort.
Creating a billion dollar company is no easy task in India,
but Kiran was sure that she would reach there one day but
did not expect it to be so soon. Kiran initially set out to
be like her father a brew master, but she later realized that
the industry was not ready for females in that position. So
she became an entrepreneur making enzymes for the brewing
industry, and there by emerged the Bio tech company.
In becoming India's richest woman she has come far ahead of
the Infosys wives. Sudha Gopalakrishnan, wife of Kris Gopalakrishnan
COO & Deputy MD. Infosys has a net worth of Rs. 1, 000
crores while Sudha Murthy, wife of Infosys chairman N. R.
Narayana Murthy has a net worth of Rs. 1, 500 crores and that
of Nandan Nilekani's family if Rs. 1, 600 crores.
Kiran patronizes a lot of local artistes and has a good collection
of them in her Spanish Villa styled house. Looking back she
wonders how her highly qualified senior management team saw
the potential and she gives all the credit to her team mates.
