Saturday evening would have been a splendid and memorable time
for most of the returned NRIs in town as they gathered at the
Taj West End to celebrate the 12th anniversary of RNRI Association
and felicitate some of the prominent personalities of Bangalore.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guests
Mr. Azim Premji Chairman of Wipro, Mr. Jagdish Tytler Union
Minister of State for Non Resident Affairs and Mr. M. V. Rajasekharan
Union Minister of State for Planning.
The prominent personalities who were felicitated that evening
were Ms. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Chairperson of Biocon for her
immense contribution in the field of biotechnology, Dr. Vivek
Jawali Cardiac Surgeon of Wockhardt Hospital for his extreme
contributions in the field of medicine, the 'unplugged man'
Mr. Rajiv Mody Chairman and Managing Director of Sasken Technologies
for his contribution in the field of IT and Mrs. Swati Ramanathan
and Mr. Ramesh Ramanathan the founders of Janaagraha. A Life
Time Achievement award was given to Mr. S. M. Krishna former
Chief Minister of Karnataka. The memento was bestowed a couple
of days before the event at S.M. Krishna's residence by the
committee members of the RNRI Association as he had to leave
out of station and his presence at the event was not possible.
After the inauguration and the felicitation
the Chief Guests addressed the gathe ring.
Mr. Jagdish Tytler said that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
had shown interest in tapping the resources of NRIs by setting
up special economic zones in different cities and also solving
their problems hitherto unattended to.
The evening came to an end with a fashion
show where the models displayed the exquisite and marvelous
traditional and modern outfits sponsored by Deepam Silks and
conventional and diamond studded jewellery collections from
Prathibha Jewellery House.
